Two new memorials have been created in Belper to commemorate the Centenary of the Outbreak of the First World War.

The first one is a field on the Chevin, which has been planted with poppies in the form of "W W 1".

A lot of hard work has gone into the memorial and during the earlier part of the year it was visible as brown letters.

And in July, all the hard work was rewarded by a fine display of red poppies, which looked great in the early morning sunshine.

The second memorial is sited on the Market Place and is a recreation of the temporary war memorial which was built there after the war had ended. This was installed during the last week of July and a memorial service was held there on Sunday 3rd August 2014 to commemorate the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War and to remember those who served during the war.
